Motorcycle Servicing

Sunshine Coast motorcycle servicing

Located at 1/9 Matheson Street, Baringa Qld 4551, our Sunshine Coast motorcycle repair workshop is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment and a complete range of high-quality tools for all your motorcycle servicing, mechanical and general bike maintenance needs.

At Caloundra Motorcycle Centre, during a motorcycle service our mechanics inspect or replace key components on your bike to ensure it is functioning optimally and safely. The specific tasks we undertake may vary depending on whether the service is a minor or major service, what type of bike it is, the manufacturer, and the bike's age and mileage. If our mechanics find a major mechanical problem during the service, we will contact you to discuss the best way to fix the issue.

What work is done during a motorcycle service?

Some of the regular maintenance tasks we may need to complete during a service include:

  • Oil change: One of the most basic yet critical aspects of motorcycle maintenance is to drain the old engine oil and replace the oil filter, and then refill the engine with fresh oil as specified by the manufacturer to lubricate the engine components and minimise wear. When the oil is changed, a visual inspection of the old can often detect a problem deeper within the engine if traces or excessive wear are detected.
  • Fluid checks: Other fluids including coolant and brake fluid will be checked and topped up or replaced as needed. The correct fluid levels are essential to maintain the bike's cooling system and braking performance.
  • Brake inspection: The brakes are inspected for wear and function. This includes checking brake pads or shoes, brake discs or drums, brake lines, and brake fluid levels. Worn-out brake components will need to be replaced, and the braking system will be bled if necessary to remove air bubbles which can cause excessive play in brake levers and slow to react and weak braking.
  • Tyre inspection and pressure check: Tyres are examined for signs of wear, damage, or uneven wear patterns. Pressure is checked and adjusted to manufacturer recommendations to ensures optimal grip, handling, and safety.
  • Chain inspection and lubrication: The drive chain will be inspected for wear, tension, and alignment, and cleaned and lubricated to prevent corrosion – which is particularly important in coastal environments like the Sunshine Coast. If your bike has a belt or shaft drive system, they will be inspected and lubricated according to manufacturer specification.
  • Air filter inspection: Your bike's air filter is inspected and cleaned or replaced if needed to ensure optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.
  • Spark plug inspection: Spark plugs will be inspected and replaced if worn out. New and clean spark plugs ensure efficient combustion and smooth engine operation.
  • Electrical and lighting system check: Your bike's electrical system will be inspected, including the battery, wiring, switches and lights. Any faults will need to be repaired or replaced.
  • Suspension inspection: Depending on the type of suspension, components including mounts, forks, seals and shocks, are inspected for leaks, fluid levels, signs of stress, wear, and functionality. Suspension settings may be adjusted based on rider preferences or manufacturer specifications.
  • Chassis inspection: The bike's frame, swingarm, and other chassis components will be inspected for cracks, damage, or other signs of wear.
  • Exhaust inspection: A visual inspection of the exhaust system will look for signs of damage including cracks, fluid accumulation, leaks or rust.
  • Safety checks: Safety-related components including the horn, mirrors, controls, and the side stand/center stand will be checked to ensure they function correctly.
  • Timing chain inspection or replacement: A timing chains can last for the lifetime of the engine, but your bikes' timing chain may occasionally need to be inspected during a service or replaced as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Valve inspection and adjustment: Engine valves may need to be inspected and adjusted during a service as recommended by the manufacturer. Older bikes and dirt bikes may need more regular engine valve checks than newer bikes and road bikes.
  • Test ride: If significant work has been carried out, our mechanic may do a road test ride to ensure everything is working properly or to identify any potential problems that may not have been obvious during the workshop inspection.

Regular motorcycle servicing keeps your bike in top condition, ensuring reliability, safety, performance and longevity. We recommended following the manufacturer's service schedule or if you suspect there is a problem with your bike, booking a service immediately and minimising time on the road before we can inspect your bike is the safest – and often most cost-effective – way to go.

Legends, brought life back to my 1098 after sitting for a year. These guys are very professional and know what they are talking about, honest and thorough. Their safety inspections uncovered a list of faults that could of ended very badly on the road.

Had a full service and timing belt replacement done on my Ducati 1098. The guys went above and beyond expectations and even fixed other issues I was unaware of.
